Happiness

Work/life balance means something different to everyone and at times is at best an elusive ideal and at worst a complete myth. We all live busy lives. Whether you work for a small company, a large corporate or are running solo. A whopping 94% of working professionals reported working more than 50 hours per week and nearly half said they worked more than 65 hours per week in a Harvard Business School survey. By making considered choices about which opportunities you pursue and which you decline, rather than simply reacting to emergencies, you can find try to find some balance in meaningfully engaging with work, family, and community. And you know what, give yourself a break - you can’t do everything, nor should you try No matter what work/life balance means for you, here are some useful tips that might help! As with the start of every New Year, many of us use this as a time to reflect on our new year goals, both personal and professional, and assess what we need to do to achieve them. And many of us make a list of those New Year goals, often to help us focus. So we’ve thought of a few ways your VA can assist in helping you achieve those goals and hold you accountable, so you can kick off 2018 on the right foot! I want to get organized Before your brand new calendar begins to book up with meetings and events, take the time now to get your plans for the year under control. You can start by giving your VA full access to your calendar and have them take over the process of creating and scheduling meetings on your behalf. We manage diaries for a host of clients, working...

We all like to smile and research shows that learning makes us happier. Researchers have looked into the relationship between education and health and the main pattern discovered was that life-long learning and a love of education has a positive effect on people’s well-being and subsequent happiness. Most people I know love to read and grew up absorbed in novels that expanded our imagination and made us both laugh and cry. We all have our own special memories of childhood reads, novels that inspired us through tough times, books that taught us things we didn't know and the fun books that spread a little happiness and made us smile a little!  So to celebrate World Smile Day we’ve pulled together our top 4 Books to Make you Smile – and one due out in February which we can’t wait for! We hope they make you smile every single time you pick...

All across the UK today, there will be families celebrating Mother's Day.  For me, I am heading to the beach for a glorious lunch in our favourite beach bistro followed by a sunny afternoon walk on the prom, with my 80 year old mum and my daughter. I am a mum to a feisty, beautiful, full-on, glorious and truly adorable 14 year old daughter. I love that she has always been, even as a tiny child, measured and considered but with a wicked streak of fun. She remains in her teenage years very centered and balanced, so incredibly talented, determined, independent, slowly increasingly sure of her own abilities - and most importantly so very happy. And every day I love her more. I hope I have taught her well how to weather the wonderful bendy, up and down journey that is life; and feel today, on this Mother's Day, a day that...

Today is the International Day of Happiness.  Simplicity sits high on my list of ‘happy’ things, so today I thought I would 'go simple' and ask a mix of clients and friends to summarise just a few things that make them happy! Spotting dolphins close to shore in Cardigan Bay, watching the murmuration of starlings as they come in to roost under Aberystwyth pier, clear blue skies and sunshine on a cold winter’s day,  catching up with a friend over a cuppa,  planning a holiday, cooking a special meal, supporting my local rugby club, choosing to spend time alone, borrowing a dog to take for a walk on the beach, having a laugh with my Mum Jan, Aberystwyth, Wales   Customers coming through the door & a healthy turnover, happy customers and good feedback, happy staff and a well-bonded team, conscientious staff who care about their job and having pride in my brand. Richard, Proprietor...

International Women’s Day Celebrated in countries across the globe, International Women's Day is an official holiday in many countries and, in some, even has the equivalent status of Mother's Day where children give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers. More seriously International Women’s Day is a facilitator for driving real change for women, working in areas such as helping women and girls achieve their ambitions; challenging conscious and unconscious bias; calling for balanced leadership; respecting women and men's contributions on an equal footing; and creating inclusive adaptable cultures. So today whilst continuing to globally strive for parity and making a real difference for women by raising visibility and awareness of women’s issues, let's also celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and champion inspiring women across the globe. For me, right now, there are four women achieving their own great things who inspire me in my own journey, simply by...
