Instagram has exploded in popularity since it first launched in 2010. Now with more than 700 million monthly active users, including both consumers and businesses, some 70 million photos are shared on the platform every day. Having a larger Instagram following can mean more sales for your business, more views on your blog, and a stronger community for your brand. But how in the world do some people have thousands of Instagram followers? Some businesses have been using Instagram for publicity from the start, but it wasn’t until recently that the company created a specific profile for businesses, with ever evolving features. This came alongside recent algorithms, designed to be similar to Facebook’s algorithms, allowing Instagram to present its users with more of what they find interesting and less stuff that would be considered intrusive, or ‘spammy’. So it could become increasingly difficult for a business to stand out in coming months.  But with a...

One of the aspects of my job which I love is social media management. And I am lucky enough to work with some great clients, including some amazingly inspiring women doing great things in beautiful ways in art, illustration, weddings, make-up and lifestyle creative. Social media is one of the most powerful branding tools available for your business. When used positively and with purpose. One thing we all know is key is that to create a successful following on social media you need to be using hashtags. To help your brand develop, grow engagement, and drive traffic to your website. But which hashtags? In this post, I will be sharing the top 50 Hashtags for Female Entrepreneurs. Put simply, for girl-boss businesses or women making their mark online, mixing up these hashtags in your social media channels will help grow your online presence and make your content more searchable. I hope you enjoy these...

All across the UK today, there will be families celebrating Mother's Day.  For me, I am heading to the beach for a glorious lunch in our favourite beach bistro followed by a sunny afternoon walk on the prom, with my 80 year old mum and my daughter. I am a mum to a feisty, beautiful, full-on, glorious and truly adorable 14 year old daughter. I love that she has always been, even as a tiny child, measured and considered but with a wicked streak of fun. She remains in her teenage years very centered and balanced, so incredibly talented, determined, independent, slowly increasingly sure of her own abilities - and most importantly so very happy. And every day I love her more. I hope I have taught her well how to weather the wonderful bendy, up and down journey that is life; and feel today, on this Mother's Day, a day that...

Today is the International Day of Happiness.  Simplicity sits high on my list of ‘happy’ things, so today I thought I would 'go simple' and ask a mix of clients and friends to summarise just a few things that make them happy! Spotting dolphins close to shore in Cardigan Bay, watching the murmuration of starlings as they come in to roost under Aberystwyth pier, clear blue skies and sunshine on a cold winter’s day,  catching up with a friend over a cuppa,  planning a holiday, cooking a special meal, supporting my local rugby club, choosing to spend time alone, borrowing a dog to take for a walk on the beach, having a laugh with my Mum Jan, Aberystwyth, Wales   Customers coming through the door & a healthy turnover, happy customers and good feedback, happy staff and a well-bonded team, conscientious staff who care about their job and having pride in my brand. Richard, Proprietor...

International Women’s Day Celebrated in countries across the globe, International Women's Day is an official holiday in many countries and, in some, even has the equivalent status of Mother's Day where children give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers. More seriously International Women’s Day is a facilitator for driving real change for women, working in areas such as helping women and girls achieve their ambitions; challenging conscious and unconscious bias; calling for balanced leadership; respecting women and men's contributions on an equal footing; and creating inclusive adaptable cultures. So today whilst continuing to globally strive for parity and making a real difference for women by raising visibility and awareness of women’s issues, let's also celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and champion inspiring women across the globe. For me, right now, there are four women achieving their own great things who inspire me in my own journey, simply by...

We all waste time at work. Whether you just can’t focus on what you need to do or you’re trying to relieve your boredom by browsing the Internet. Time-wasting is painfully common in workplaces all across the globe According to recent data 4 percent of employees waste half the day or more -- and that’s not accounting for self-reporting biases! If you’re like me and are very self-driven, at this point you’re likely telling yourself that you believe others do this, but that you most definitely do not! Maybe not deliberately but unfortunately, most forms of wasting time go unnoticed by you until it’s too late to do anything about them. Do you recognize any of these? Communication The most efficient communicators use tools such as meetings, phone calls and emails to ensure this is a consistent and productive process. Business communication is a necessary tool day to day, and in an ideal world, efficient. But how...

Even with these handy email tips, management of email is cited as one of the most time consuming business management tools we all use every day, with over 48% of people stating that email overload impacts negatively on their productivity. Coupled with constant meetings and chatty colleagues, the daily impact on your output can be huge. So what are some of the ‘golden’ email time saving rules which could save you at least a little time each day? Out of Office The “out of office” feature is great for when you need to focus on an important project or deadline. It’s a brilliant way of letting people know not to expect a reply until a given time or date. Use the phone instead Do you need to pop it on email? There are some things that can be communicated, and often better, by telephone or face-to-face rather than through email. Would a quick phone call...

I decided to celebrate this second month of 2017 with a 10% offer! 10% off all new Virtual Assistant Packages booked during this month! I know how time consuming your admin, diary and social media can be. Your email just doesn't stop and your phone is always ringing. You're handling it all day-to-day and its all too much. You'd just like some help but you don't really need someone full-time, or maybe you do but you don't want to find office space. And you know that employing someone will brings with it training, more admin, and more cost. I work with different businesses all the time who simply need a few hours a week or help with an event, someone to take on some key research, or just a human to take the phone sometimes. Someone who can step in daily and pick up the email, or curate and schedule some social...

Overwhelmed by Social Media? When I first started looking at how to best work with Social Media for my business, and for the two small arts businesses my teenager has set up, it felt like a huge mountain to climb in unfamiliar territory and with jargon that was as clear as mud. Which site to use most, how to plan a strategy, what would the benefits be? Do you find all the Social Media options confusing? Not know why you need to use it, or which option might be good for your business? Or once you've chosen, how to make it work for you? Can you optimise your social media and use it to generate real, tangible and invoiced work? Are you confused by how social media could help your business today? Small businesses can grow and succeed using social platforms but the choices and options are vast. However, its worth considering...
